Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise: support, maintenance and upgrades

Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise (OXE) is the PBX from Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALE) for medium-sized and large organisations. We supply new systems and provide OXE support, upgrades, virtualisation and connection to Teams, so that your PBX lasts for many years.

We usually start with a simple inventory of your PBX, licences and integrations.

About Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise

The PBX for medium-sized and large organisations

OmniPCX Enterprise, often called OXE, is ALE’s PBX for medium-sized, large and very large organisations. It can run entirely in software with IP and SIP, or as a hybrid with digital and analogue extensions and wireless on-site phones (DECT). The current generation is called OmniPCX Enterprise Purple.

According to ALE, one server handles 15,000 IP or SIP users, and a network of several servers up to 100,000 users. The call server and database can be duplicated, and branches can keep working when the link to the central site goes down.

We are an ALE partner, supply new systems and look after the ones you already have.

  • Contact with ALE when a case needs escalating
  • Changes to the PBX, such as extensions, groups and permissions
  • ALE’s security fixes, applied according to a plan

How we help you

What we do with Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise

Upgrades

To the current version, with checks of phones, integrations and licences.

Virtualisation

Old servers are replaced with virtual machines in your data centre.

SIP and Teams

SIP trunks, meaning the operator’s phone lines over the internet, and Teams via Direct Routing. A certified SBC protects the traffic between your network, your operator and Teams.

Support takeover

If another provider has looked after your PBX, we take over support with a plan and a parallel period, as part of our third-party PBX maintenance.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about Alcatel-Lucent OmniPCX Enterprise

Can OmniPCX Enterprise run virtualised?

Yes. According to ALE, it can run on VMware vSphere, KVM (for example Proxmox), Hyper-V, Nutanix and AWS, and also in ALE’s cloud.

Does it work with Microsoft Teams?

Yes. ALE describes connecting to Teams with SIP Direct Routing, and Microsoft requires a certified SBC, for example from AudioCodes. ALE also has its own link between Teams and telephony via Rainbow.

Do we need an SPS contract?

According to ALE, SPS (Software Premium Service) provides new versions and security fixes. Without it, keeping the PBX secure becomes harder. We sell SPS and monitor the contract for you. We describe what this means over time in the guide on the PBX lifecycle.

Can you take over support from another provider?

Yes. We start with an inventory and take over after a parallel period. The SPS contract is transferred through ALE’s partner change process. We have done this before, and it usually goes smoothly.

What level of availability can it achieve?

The call server and database can be duplicated with automatic failover, and branches can continue with a local standby server when the link to the central site goes down.

What are the different parts called?

OmniPCX Enterprise is the PBX, OmniVista 8770 is the management tool and Rainbow is ALE’s cloud service for mobility, video and messaging. Purple at the end of the name denotes the current generation.
