Mitel OpenScape Alarm Response
OpenScape Alarm Response is Mitel’s alarm server and is particularly well suited to healthcare regions and hospitals. It sends alarms from nurse call, fire alarms and technical systems to the right people, on their phone, DECT handset, by SMS or in the app, and alerts the next person if nobody acknowledges. We supply and install it and connect it to your PBX and your alarm systems.
About Mitel OpenScape Alarm Response
The right alarm to the right person, on time
OpenScape Alarm Response, often abbreviated to OScAR, receives alarms from other systems and makes sure they get through. It might be the nurse call on a ward, a fire alarm, an alarm from the building management system or an alarm button on a phone. The alarm goes to the people who need it, in the order you have decided, and on to the next person if nobody acknowledges it. Everything is logged.
It can also reach whole groups at once with a recorded message, bring a crisis team together in a conference call and protect lone workers.
It is particularly well suited to alarm management in a healthcare region or a hospital, where alarms from many systems must reach the right person around the clock and no alarm may be left unanswered.
OpenScape Alarm Response is developed by the German company tetronik and sold by Mitel. It comes in two editions: Professional for large organisations with high availability requirements, and Economy for smaller organisations. The latest version of Professional is 5.1.
We can supply and install OpenScape Alarm Response, and we have engineers who have worked with it. We connect it to your PBX, for example OpenScape 4000, and to your DECT phones and alarm systems.

Use cases
How Mitel OpenScape Alarm Response is used
Nurse call
A nurse call goes straight to the right nurse’s DECT phone, and on to the person in charge if nobody answers.
Fire and evacuation
A fire alarm can silently alert the response team and start a targeted evacuation of a building or an area.
Lone working
Lone workers can raise an alarm with a button on their phone, and an alarm is sent automatically if the phone stays still for too long.
The crisis team
The crisis management team meets in a conference call, with the alarm server calling each member, wherever they are.
Technical alarms
Alarms from the building or from production, such as excessive temperature, go to the right technician or the on-call engineer.
Information to many people
A recorded message reaches all staff or a group at once, for example during an outage.

Common questions
Frequently asked questions about Mitel OpenScape Alarm Response
What is the difference between Professional and Economy?
Economy is designed for smaller organisations and has up to 50 alarm flows per unit. Professional handles more flows, mass notifications, lone worker protection and standby servers for high availability, and has its own mobile app.
Can the alarm server be connected to our nurse call system?
Usually, yes. Nurse call, fire alarms and building systems are normally connected using the ESPA 4.4.4 or ESPA-X standards, or via contact inputs. We check which interface your system has in the assessment.
Does it work with our PBX?
OpenScape Alarm Response works with OpenScape 4000 and OpenScape Voice and can be connected to other PBXs via SIP. Which features you can use depends on the PBX and the phones, and we go through that first.
What happens if nobody answers?
The alarm moves on in the order you have decided, for example to the next person or to the person in charge, until someone acknowledges it. Everything is logged, so that it can be reviewed afterwards.
Can lone workers be protected?
Yes, with Professional and phones that have an alarm button and movement monitoring. The alarm goes off when the user presses the button or when the phone stays still for too long, and it reaches the people you have chosen.
What happens if the alarm server stops working?
Professional can be built with standby servers that take over. We decide how much redundancy is needed based on how critical the alarms are.
