Teams Phone in multiple countries

We help companies with operations in multiple countries get one shared Teams Phone setup, with the right connection, numbers and emergency calling in each country.

What we do

One solution, different rules

Teams Phone can connect to the phone network in four ways: Calling Plan, where Microsoft is the operator; Operator Connect, through a certified operator; Teams Phone Mobile, through the mobile operator; and Direct Routing, with your own SBC. The methods can be mixed in the same Microsoft 365 environment, by country, office or group.

What suits you is decided country by country: which services are available there, the rules for numbers and emergency calling, existing operator contracts and what needs to connect to a contact centre or PBX. We can carry out the analysis, build the architecture and roll it out one country at a time.

We have good knowledge of local SBCs and work with SBCs from both AudioCodes and Mitel (OpenScape SBC and MiVoice Border Gateway). Where Operator Connect or a Calling Plan suits a country better, we help you choose.

Benefits

What you get

The same Teams for everyone

The whole company uses the same Teams, even if the connection to the phone network differs between countries.

Set up to local rules

Numbers, emergency calling and routing are set up according to each country’s rules, for example where the law requires a local connection.

One point of contact

We coordinate the operators and keep track of numbers, documentation and changes.

Contact centre and PBX included

With Direct Routing you can bring in contact centres, existing PBXs and backup routes.

How Teams connects to the phone network

MethodWho handles the connectionSuits you when
Calling PlanMicrosoft is the operatorSmaller offices in countries where the plan is available. Sweden is one of them.
Operator ConnectA certified operator manages numbers and SBCsYou want the operator to take responsibility for the connection.
Teams Phone MobileThe mobile operatorMobile staff. Does not work for switchboard functions and call queues.
Direct RoutingYou or your partner, with your own SBCContact centres, PBXs, advanced routing or countries with special rules.

Calling Plans are not available in every country, for example not in the United Arab Emirates or China. There you need Operator Connect or Direct Routing. In countries such as India, calls may not bypass the local operator, and Location-Based Routing is used instead. It limits features such as call queues and recording.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about Teams Phone in multiple countries

Can all countries have the same Teams solution?

Yes, in the same Microsoft 365 environment. What can differ is how each country connects to the phone network, and Calling Plan, Operator Connect and Direct Routing can be mixed.

Do we need an SBC in every country?

Not always. A central SBC can serve many countries, for example the whole of Europe. Some countries require a local connection, and a local SBC is placed there.

Can we keep our numbers?

Usually, by porting them to Microsoft, to an Operator Connect operator or to the operator behind your SBC. Rules and lead times differ between countries.

How does emergency calling work?

Every location needs a registered emergency address. With Calling Plan and Operator Connect, users get the country’s emergency number automatically. With Direct Routing, emergency numbers and routes are configured in Teams and in the SBC, and we test them in each country.

What about countries that regulate internet telephony?

There, Location-Based Routing or a local solution may be required, for example Operator Connect for India. It affects features such as call queues and recording, so we cover it in the country analysis.

How long does a rollout take?

It is often determined by number porting and by the checks some countries require before numbers can be bought or ported. So we start number porting and the checks first, then roll out to a pilot country before the rest follow in stages.
